While the concept of selling “put your logo on products” is obviously not particularly new or revolutionary, this project highlights the flexibility that Idealien Studios can offer customers with a breadth of material/build options able to be delivered in a single order.
Mark Twain wrote that, “There is no such thing as a new idea”. Designing these serving trays was a way for me to build upon a successful idea my parents had in a curious combination that helps new home owners understand their neighbourhood.
The use case of wooden free-standing screens for a tabletop RPG may be niche, but this project was an exciting opportunity to push my tools/skills. The grain-matching inlays, backfilling routed lines with epoxy and blending laser etchings over top from it are ones I’m excited to use on more projects in the future.

Growing up with parents that were teachers, I understood quickly that a great way to verify if you know a topic as well as you think you do is to try and pass that knowledge on to others and see that they can make use of it.
Collaborating with other makers on projects that I also get to participate in is always an exciting opportunity. It certainly didn’t hurt to get a nostalgia fix from the 80’s theme and finding UV-reactive primary printer colours that popped on the black shirts.
Some of the projects that have the biggest impact on day-to-day quality of life are also the simplest. These 3D printed spice racks mounted on the inside of a cabinet door for easy access when a dish needs a dash of something extra.
